On July 8, 슬롯토토 Yonkang Foundation (Chairman Yong Hyun Park) held a ceremony at the Lotte Hotel Seoul to present the 2016 슬롯토토 Yonkang Academic Award for best medical article. The winner of this year’s award was Sang-Hoon Oh, professor of the Emergency Medicine Division at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, who received 30 million won (about $25,800) and a plaque. The paper that won Oh the award was, “The prognostic value of continuous amplitude-integrated electroencephalogram applied immediately after return of spontaneous circulation in therapeutic hypothermia-treated cardiac arrest patients,” which was published in the Circulation Journal of the American Heart Association in September 2015. The study concluded for the first time in the world that analysis of the brainwaves of adult comatose survivors of cardiac arrest could help determine whether the patients’ recovery time could be accurately predicted through the continuous application of amplitude-integrated electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring.
